JIT produce deliveries under 48 hours

Running a 36–48 hour cut-to-cook window on fresh greens for 14 restaurants in Chicago, I’m fighting temp excursions and dwell every time we try to tighten JIT drops. What playbooks or tools have helped you hold 34–38°F on last mile — SOPs, checklists, or tech like Tive loggers + FourKites ETAs — to keep perishables moving without padding safety stock?

We cut excursions by pre-chilling trailers and walk-ins, enforcing a “doors-open <45s” SOP with door sensors tied to @Tive alerts and geofenced dwell caps — a bouncer for the reefer door. Small caveat: we run Thermo King SmartReefer in continuous fan at 34°F (watch freeze risk on tender greens); have you tried @FourKites hold-to-dock so doors stay shut until the receiver’s ready?

Quick win for us was switching reefers to return-air control with a remote probe mounted about 18–24 in from the rear doors at tote height, then holding 36°F in continuous; it stopped door-open bursts from triggering a 28°F supply blast and edge-freezing tender greens. Building on @nicole29, the caveat is probe tampering — we added a simple seal; can your carrier lock return-air mode and mount the probe where ops can’t bump it?
