We cut average dwell 18% last quarter by piping ELD pings into the dock scheduler and auto-notifying the yard 30 minutes before ETA; carriers got a shared link to claim a slot. It only sticks if ops owns the alert and driver adoption is decent — otherwise, as @Samir likes to say, ‘alerts without ownership don’t move freight.’ Think traffic lights for the yard, not a crystal ball.

@nicole29 agreed on attacking chokepoints. We fed live ETAs into the WMS so when a truck hit a 12-mile geofence, it auto-released the final picks and pinged the lead via Twilio; cost us about $250 and cut door idle fast. Caveat: if the ETA feed is noisy, set a confidence threshold or you’ll be restaging all day.
Quick win for us: we pushed a simple ‘door cleared’ scan at the dock (barcode on the door) that instantly releases the next move to the yard through the TMS, which trimmed truck wait time more than any ETA work; caveat, it breaks if door and trailer IDs aren’t pristine in the master data.
